Friends surprise Poulsbo family who battled sickle cell with home remodel

This was a story and photo gallery I worked on while interning at the Kitsap Sun in Bremerton, Washington.

I fist met the Randel family while covering a separate assignment for a Juneteenth event that summer. A Sun staff reporter previously reported on the 14-year-old who battled sickle cell anemia. The family received a trip to Disney World and while they were away their friends and family surprised them with a gift that left the Randel family in tears of joy.

This story was picked up by the Associated Press and published in The Washington Times, The ColumbianReading Eagle and other publications.
